Glass Art -
Mosaics - Etching - Awards - Gifts

Hi, I'm Liz Avalon.
I love the process of creating art from glass. Cold-process glasswork is a highly precise and detail oriented craft. Etching glass is a slow process of erosion, using a sandblaster. Each piece of sand carved artwork requires careful design, creation of a stencil, and precise masking to protect those parts of the glass that will not be carved. Only then can the etching begin, and each piece may require one, five, or even twenty separate trips to the sandblasting booth, depending on the complexity of the artwork. Once the carving is complete, some of the artworks are left in their natural sandblasted state, while others are then carefully painted. To paint the glass, layers of vibrant translucent colors are added using an airbrush and then sealed with a clear varnish.
With all of my artwork, I strive to find balance and harmony, not only within the glass, but by finding a balance between the natural world and spiritual world as well. It is my goal to capture a sense of peace, beauty, wonder, and inspiration in each of my creations, and to share just a little bit of that joy with others.
I first began working in glass in 2005 when I was lucky enough to apprentice with a master glass artist who specialized in sandblasting, carving, and painting glass. I began creating mosaics in 2007, first as a fun way to recycle glass scraps left from other projects, and later as a line of artwork for it's own sake.
Thank you so much for visiting this site. I hope you like what you see.
